The present tutorial provides an introduction to the materials and theory of music. The tutorial does not assume any prior musical background, but rather introduces and builds upon basic concepts through examples the reader can see, hear and explore. The tutorial explains some features of musical notation, but neither emphasizes nor requires the ability to read music. Instead, the tutorial places emphasis upon the connection between musical terms and the sounds to which they refer.
