Pitch Basics

Musical Time

Pitch Structures

Introduction

The present tutorial provides an introduction to the materials and theory of music. The tutorial does not assume any prior musical background, but rather introduces and builds upon basic concepts through examples the reader can see, hear and explore. The tutorial explains some features of musical notation, but neither emphasizes nor requires the ability to read music. Instead, the tutorial places emphasis upon the connection between musical terms and the sounds to which they refer.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: The pages require the latest Flash player, a free plug-in available at Adobe. You will be prompted and directed to the download page if you do not already have the plug-in installed. Be sure you have the latest version of the Flash Player.
